About OaklineA workshop built on patience.
Since 2004 we have built one thing: woodwork that belongs. This is the story, the philosophy and the people behind it.
Our story
From a two-bench shop to an atelier.
Oakline began in 2004 with founder Elias Rowe, two benches and a belief that fitted woodwork should be designed like architecture and finished like furniture. Twenty years on, our Portland workshop houses joiners, cabinetmakers, finishers and designers under one roof — 1,400 projects later, most new work still arrives by referral.
We remain deliberately small enough that a principal touches every project, and equipped enough to engineer staircases, kitchens and full commercial interiors in-house.

Philosophy
Traditional hands, contemporary eyes.
Designed like architecture
We read plans, light and circulation before we draw a line. Woodwork should complete the building, not decorate it.
Finished like furniture
Whether it is a staircase or a spice drawer, surfaces are sanded, oiled and inspected to furniture grade.
Honest materials
Solid timber where it matters, stable engineered cores where physics demands it — never disguised, always explained.
Built for repair
Mechanical fixings, re-oilable finishes and documented construction mean our work can be serviced for decades.

Material library — every board graded and matched before cutting.
Workshop & materials
A material-first workshop.
White oak, black walnut, ash, maple and cherry arrive rough-sawn from certified mills, then acclimatise in our timber store. Grain is matched across fronts and rooms; offcuts become samples, then small goods — almost nothing is wasted.
- Certified hardwoods with full chain-of-custody documentation
- In-house machining, veneering, spraying and hand-finishing
- Hardware from makers we can service for life
- Low-VOC oils and lacquers, safe for homes with children and pets
